TRANSITIONS | Hinübergehen. Rundgang durch die Ausstellung

Die Ausstellung „TRANSITIONS | Hinübergehen“ ist eine Kooperation der Schenkung Sammlung Hoffmann, Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden und des Offspace Kaisitz, die im Rahmen der Projektreihe „Ortsgespräche“ zustande kam. Sie fand am 26. und 27. September 2020 im Offspace Kaisitz statt und zeigte verschiedene künstlerische Positionen; neben Film und Performance waren auch fotografische und installative/bildhauerische Werke von 6 Künstler*innen zu erleben.

Die Sammlung Hoffmann, die 2018 dem Freistatt Sachsen geschenkt wurde und sich seitdem im Prozess der Migration und Verwebung mit den Staatlichen Kunstsammlungen befindet, sucht nach Dialogen mit bestehenden Strukturen und Sammlungen und nach Kontakt mit dem zeitgenössischen Kunstschaffen – auch jenseits der etablierten Zentren. So kam auch diese Kooperation zustande, mit dem Grundgedanken, ein Werk aus der Sammlung auszuwählen und zum Funken für neue künstlerische Produktion zu machen. Ich lud 5 Künstler*innen ein, in Konstellation zu Mathilde ter Heijne’s filmischer Arbeit „Lament. Song for Transitions“ neue Werke zu schaffen, die in der Scheune, dem Ausstellungsraum des OK gezeigt wurden.

Für mich stellen sich im Kontext dieser Werke Fragen nach gemeinschaftlichen Ritualen, der Art, wie wir Übergänge und Veränderung zelebrieren oder verarbeiten, nach Nähe und Ferne, Berührung und Zerstörung, Erinnerung und Transformation. Und ich glaube, dass gerade hier auf dem Land noch Zusammenhänge bestehen, oder deren Echos, die in Konstellation zu den Werken unserer Ausstellung neu kontextualisiert und zur Debatte gestellt oder auch hinterfragt werden können.

Hervorgehend aus den vier Ausstellungsprojekten der Reihe „Ortsgespräche“ wird  2021 ein Ausstellungskatalog erscheinen. (Auf den wir uns sehr freuen!) Unser besonderer Dank gilt allen beteiligten Partner*innen – der Schenkung Sammlung Hoffmann, besonders Katarina Lozo und Dorothée Brill, wie auch den Kolleg*innen der SKD, und natürlich allen beteiligten Künstler*innen und allen die halfen, die Ausstellung (in dieser kurzen Zeit) zu realisieren. Wir waren begeistert und beseelt, dass Mathilde ter Heijne present war und uns für ein spannendes Künstlergespräch zur Verfügung stand, und vor Allem für den Besuch von Erika Hoffmann, die uns mit ihren klugen Fragen und Standpunkten begeisterte. Wenn ich zurückblicke, dann waren wohl der Regen und die plötzliche Kälte unsere Verbündeten: bescherten sie uns doch diese phantastische, intime Situation mit intensiven und so nahen Künstlergesprächen.

TRANSITIONS | Hinübergehen. Walk through the exhibition

The exhibition „TRANSITIONS | Hinübergehen“ is a cooperation of the Schenkung Sammlung Hoffmann, Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden and Offspace Kaisitz, that was realized within the exhibition series „Ortsgespräche“. It took place in september 26-27 2020 at Offspace Kaisitz and showed 6 positions in different artistic genres – encompassing works in the fields of film and performance, as well as photography and installtion/sculpture by 6 artists.

The collection Schenkung Sammlung Hoffmann, that was presented to the state of saxony in 2018, is in the process of migrating from Berlin to Saxony, weaving into the existing structures and collections and searching for connections with contemporary art production and discourse, reaching beyond the established centers of art. It is in this spirit, that our cooperation emerged, with the idea to make available one work of the collection to spark new artistic work and relate it to the off-spaces and activate some of their discoursive potentials. As curator, I invited 5 artists to participate in the project and create works in constellation to Mathilde ter Heijne’s piece „Lament. Songs for Transition“, that make up the exhibition TRANSITIONS.

The questions and themes that were triggered by this encounter and also in relation to this special place were questions about communal rituals, and the way we celebrate or process passages and change, intimacy and destruction, memory and transformation. I think that here, at the countryside, there still are relations, or their echoes, that were maybe touched by our exhibition in a certain way.

In 2021, there will be a printed publication/catalogue that documents the four exhibition projects of the Ortsgespräche program. (And we are very looking forward to this!)

Special thanks go to all the involved parties – the Schenkung Sammlung Hoffmann, particularly Katarina Lozo und Dorothèe Brill, as well as the staff of the SKD and, of course all participating artists and everyone who helped to make this happen (in the short time). We were stoked to welcome Mathilde ter Heijne (who gave an amazing delightful talk), as well as Erika Hoffmann, who graced us with her appearance and her insightful questions. Looking back, I am taken to thank the cold and the rain, as they provided us with that amazingly intimate situation of concentrated artist talks and delightful contemplation of the exhibition.
